There is broad consensus that HR669 is a very poorly crafted Bill.
It is ill defined and does not take into account the new realities of the world and American life. People have lived with animals all of our lives over the millenia and over all the continents of the world. Animals, paradoxically, improve people’s humanity. What I consider a pet, someone else may not. It is just as simple as that. Yet, in America today, we have groups and individuals who say that according to their standards, my pet is not a pet. It is something else. And not only is it something else, according to their standards, I am supposed live my life their way, i.e., without this animal, that I have come to love and care about. Well, America does not work quite that way. America, you see, is a Republic. It is not a Democracy. But more on that another time. So, what are we going to do about this?
Well, the good news is that this poorly crafted Bill is not yet a Law. But, as we all know, nothing has ever prevented a poorly crafted Bill from becoming a poorly crafted Law.
